BOEDECKER FOUNDATION FUNDS NEW WEST ENTRANCE AND ARTS PROGRAM AT THE DARIY CENTER

BOULDER, Colo. – The Dairy Center for the Arts has received a grant from The Boedecker Foundation to add a new West Entrance and Family Lobby at The Dairy, and provide funding for a Path to Excellence program of arts grants.
The Dairy’s capital campaign started five years ago when George B. Boedecker Jr. awarded The Dairy its first Boedecker Foundation grant to build The Boedecker Theater.

The new West Entrance will include a Family Lobby for The Dairy’s arts schools, including the Parlando School of Music and the Boulder Ballet, a comfortable place for families to wait while their students learn and perform. Restrooms, homework space for siblings, and work space for parents are included.

Also part of the project is a large elevator to make the West Entrance ADA compliant and move theater sets.
“Access is important to all patrons of the Dairy Center,” Boedecker said. “I am dedicating this elevator to my nephew, Willie, who uses a wheelchair.”
‘’This addition makes a difference for everybody who comes to The Dairy,” said Richard Polk, longtime chair of The Dairy’s Board of Directors. “Families, patrons and presenters won’t have to navigate crowded hallways, and our beautifully redesigned Carsen Theater will have its own, more sophisticated entry.”

The Path to Excellence grants will go to individuals and organizations whose initiatives enhance Boulder’s arts experiences and reputation. As many as five grants of $5,000 each will be awarded each year for six years. A five-person committee will determine grant recipients.
“Grants will encourage local artists and bring in artists from other cities, states and countries to cross-pollinate Boulder’s arts scene,” explained Bill Obermeier, Executive Director of The Dairy.

The Dairy is currently renovating its facilities thanks to Boulder’s November vote for Ballot Measure 2A. The Boedecker gift is the second major donation The Dairy has received since then. The first was from Gordon and Grace Gamm to rebuild and upgrade The Dairy’s two main performance theaters.
The Boedecker Family Lobby and West Entry will be part of the final phase of the renovation, targeted for completion by late 2016.
