The Boe Community Center Survives, Miriam Category 4 Hurricane in Baja California

On September 25th, 2012 La Paz, Mexico was hit by a category 4 hurricane. The hurricane caused significant property damage, fortunately no lives were lost due to the hurricane. Roads and some buildings were damaged. In preparation for the hurricane schools, government offices and other businesses were closed, including the Boe Community Center. There was severe flooding throughout La Paz, Mexico. The Boe Community Center was closed for two days and only sustained minor cosmetic damage to its building, mostly falling plaster and minor superficial cracks in some of the classrooms.

Gabriela Moran, the Boe Community Center General Director said, “We were very lucky that no one was hurt and our building sustained only minor damage. We closed the Boe Community Center for two days so that our staff and children could stay home and avoid the severely flooded roads. We are very grateful for the support we have received from the Boedecker Foundation and others who have volunteered their time to help with the clean up”.
